Meng Haoran: Climb Wan Sui Tower

Climb Wan Sui Tower

Deng Wan Sui Lou

Wan sui lou tou wang gu xiang
Du ling xiang si geng mang mang.
Tian han yan du kan chui lei
Yue luo yuan ti yu duan chang.

Qu yin gu di lin dong pu
Xie fen yuan an jin ku yang.
Jin zhao ou jian tong pao you
Que xi jia shu ji ba hang.

Climb Wan Sui Tower

From atop the Wan Sui tower, native village far into the distance
One cause, hometown still more vast and boundless.
Frozen sky, wild geese endure falling tears
Moonset, monkeys cry for heart-broken desires.

Ancient dykes zig-zag along the frost-covered watered edges
On a distant riverbank, sections of slanting and withered poplars.
Today’s dawn, suddenly see my very good friends
Let me write and send to my family, this eight-lined verse.
