Clouds Like One Hairbun (Thinking of Each Others For a Long Time)
Clouds like one hairbun with one bodkin in place
Very thin and flimsy unlined blouse.
Pair of spiraled black eyeliner brows, shaped in a common frown
Many autumn winds, gentle rain appears.
Outside the curtains, fragrant broadleaf plants with two or three bird nests
All evening long, awake with the melancholy!
Notes:
Li Yu’s poems are in the form of ci poetry. Like many modern day songs, the poetry is accompanied by musical melodies. Here the titles of the music are in parenthesis, while the title of poems (libretto) are the first few words of the first line.
